Lyla Miller, 86, of Afton, formerly of Thayer, died Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the Clearview Care Center in Mount Ayr.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2020 at the Powers Funeral Home 612 N. Dodge in Afton. Pastor Dwayne Henrichs will officiate.
Burial will be at the Murray Cemetery in Murray.
Visitation with family receiving friends will be from 1 to 2 p.m. service time Monday at Powers Funeral Home in Afton.
Lyla Jean Miller, daughter of Wilbur Endemen Gillett and Mellie Gillett, was born August 16, 1934 in Osceola, Ia. She graduated from Hartford High School in 1952.
On September 24, 1954, Lyla was united in marriage to Ray Miller in Des Moines, IA at the Courthouse. They first lived and worked in Des Moines, where Lyla worked for Allied Insurance. In December 1959, they moved to Thayer where Lyla worked as a homemaker and farm wife. Lyla moved to live with her daughter Sue in Afton in 2012.
Lyla is survived by her daughter, Sue; two sons, Terry (wife Marcie) and Steve (Amber); two sisters-in-law, Doris and Thelma; seven grandchildren, Matt, Lindsay (husband Jason), Kalli (husband Luke), Cody (wife Lacey), Jessica (husband Curtis), Nick, and Cameron; six great-grandchildren.
Lyla was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray, in 2014; twin sons at birth; one sister, Irene Jones; and two brothers, Howard and Lyla’s twin, Lyle Gillett.
