James Taylor "Ted" Aikin, 87, of West Point, passed away Aug. 30, 2013, at North Hardin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Radcliff.
He retired as master sergeant from the U.S. Army after 26 years of service. He was a P.O.W. in World War II surviving the Bataan Death March in the Phillipines and a voyage on one of the Hell Ships. He was the owner of the Aikin's Service Station and Game Room for 30 years. Ted was a member of the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor, West Point American Legion Post No.148, Valley Station VFW Post No. 1181, Elizabethtown DAV, Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, a former West Point City Council member and the West Point Baptist Church. His greatest loves were his wife, family and country.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Jackie Ruth Wright; children, Glenn Aikin (Barbara), Dale Aikin (Brenda) Debra Aikin, Teddi Aikin Blanford and Jacky Aikin (Melissa); 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
His service is at noon Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at W.G. Hardy Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Louisville with burial following in Garnettsville Cemetery.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, noon to 8 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
