Elverna Venita (Bargfrede) DeMasters, 99, of Higginsville, died December 15, 2020 at the Meyer Care Center.

She was born August 22, 1921 in Alma, MO to Herman and Hulda (Wienberg) Bargfrede. She grew up on a farm near Alma and had fond memories of riding her horse to school with her brother, Harold. Even late in life, she missed living on that farm.

She married Charles DeMasters on May 19, 1947 in Marshall and they moved to Higginsville.

Elverna stayed home until their daughter was in school. Then she went to work, as a seamstress, at the Garment Factory, in the 1960’s, until it closed. She continued working, as a cook, at the Higginsville Senior Center.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and active in the LWML. She was a Girl Scout Leader and member of the International Ladies Garment Union.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 2002; two brothers, Harold and Willard Bargfrede; 2 sisters, Luella Wilckins and Larna Mack.

She is survived by:
Daughter: Karen DeMasters of Wall Township, NJ

Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 18th at 2:00 pm at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor Kurt Brandon.

She will be buried in the City Cemetery.
