Services: Tues., March 11, 2 p.m.

Chapel services will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at 2:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel. A Visitation will also be held on Monday, March 10, from 3-7 p.m.

Dorothy was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, just as our country entered WWII and grew up while traveling to many locations including Italy and Africa as the daughter of a military man. Settling in Albuquerque, NM, where in high school she met her future husband. Ray worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and her traveling continued, living in Belen, NM, Wellington, KS, and Clovis, NM, and then moving to Lompoc, and Coalinga, CA, and finally settling here in Bakersfield for the past 34 years. She was a dedicated homemaker raising their children.

She loved camping, fishing and flying with her husband in their small aircraft. During the early to late 1980s they were very active in the Civil Air Patrol where she served as an observer/scanner on many search and rescue missions. In 1984 they were recognized as the outstanding SQ. 121 S.A.R. team.

With her children grown up, and a husband frequently traveling overseas for an oil company, she became an Avon representative. For the past 18 years she had been a member of the Presidents Club and one of the top selling representatives in her district. During this time she made many friends of the clients she serviced and to provide a broader range of products she added items from Watkins and Fuller Brush companies. Proving to be much more than a Ding-Dong at the customers door. She continued this service in spite of her long term fight with cancer.

Dorothy, you are truly loved

and will be missed by the family and

the many friends you made along the journey.

Dorothy is survived by her loving husband of 43 years Raymond Carlson daughter Denise L. Sullivan and husband Bill, son Ron L. Carlson, sisters Pam R. Miller, and Sharon Hartman and husband Dave, brothers Richard L. Miller and wife Gwenn, Michael Hartman, and Donald Hartman, six loving grandchildren and several loving Nephews.

We are very thankful for our many friends RiverLakes Community Church and their support and comfort during Dorothys illness. Our family would like to express special thanks to the professional treatment at Comprehensive Blood and Cancer Center and finally to Hoffmanns Hospice team who provided compassionate and loving care in her final weeks. She has taken her final journey here on earth, knowing that God is never far away and we all pray she will find inner peace and unending joy.
