John was a Social Studies, and History teacher at Porterville High School, and Chaffey High School in Ontario, CA. He recieved his BA from San Jose Teacher's College, and earned his teaching credential at Claremont College. He also attended Stanford University. He loved History, English, American prose, and poetry.
He had a wonderful sense of humor, and a hearty laugh. He enjoyed playing the piano, (blues/Jazz) and listening to old Jazz music.

John was in the U. S. Navy, (Coast Guard) at the Richmond, CA shipyard for 4 months and 22 days during World War II. He was separated from the U. S. Navy at the convenience of the government and placed into the U. S. Army.
He was stationed at Buckley Field, S.S. 768 (SP0 BK 617, Denver, CO. then he was trained as a radio operator and mechanic.
He was in the Southern Philippines. Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was with the 5th AF then with the troop carrier command, then transferred to the 13th AAF.
He was a crew member on a P-46 AIRCRAFT.

Decorations and citations received: World War II Victory Medal, Oct. 23, 1945; Presidential Unit Citation, Distinguished Unit Badge GO 2186 FEAF, Oct. 1945; American Campaign Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon. Philippine Independence Medal.

At the time of his honorable discharge, Jan. 11, 1946, he was a Staff Sgt. with the 13th Troop Carrier Squadron.
