Ruth Ida Haigh Wood

Ruth Ida Haigh Wood, 77, of Marlin, entered into rest Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007. Services will be 10 a.m.. Monday at First United Methodist Church of Marlin with the Rev. Alan Wood and the Rev. Thomas Q. Robbins officiating.
Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Adams Funeral Home. Ruth was born on Mother's Day, May 11, 1930, to Raymond and Matilda Lurker Haigh. She was the first twin with a brother born in Eagle Lake, Texas and lived there until age six.
Soon after starting the first grade in Eagle Lake, her family moved to Cameron for about two and one half years. The family then moved to Angleton and ended up in Danbury where she graduated from high school. Following highschool, she attended Southwestern Business College in Houston followed by a job working at the Texas Agriculture Experiment office in Angleton. She married Gilbert Wendell Wood on Nov. 3, 1951, and worked for the Texas
Agricultural Extension Service at Texas A & M University while her husband finished his college degree. Being employed by the Extension Service as County Agent, they moved to several different places, ending up with Marlin as their home. Ruth was Falls County Clerk for nine of the 28 years that she worked for Falls County and she belonged to the District and County Clerk's association. Being a member of First United Methodist Church, she served in many capacities. She was also a member of United Methodist Women, holding the office of president and just about every office in the local UMW. She also belonged to the Wesleyan Circle until two years ago when she moved to the Maggie J. Rogers Circle. Ruth also served as secretary for the FUMC of Marlin's Administrative Board for several years. She has four living children and one stillborn child. Her children are Alan Ray, Rebecca Sue, Jerry Wendell and Brenda Evelene. Alan married Xochitl Orrell, Rebecca married Peter Thieme and Brenda married Mitch Lee. Her grandchildren are,
Michelle Lee Bellah and husband, Matt, Tabitha Lee and Samantha Lee, James Marshall Wood and wife, Jackie, Lindsay Wood, Joel Wood, Sierra Remington Wood, Phillip Thieme, Shannon Thieme, Savannah Wood and Joshua Wood and
wife, Cindy; and great-grandson, Connor Wood. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Donald Haigh and a sister Sarah Isabel Argeanas.
Surviving her is her twin brother, Russell Haigh and wife, Carol, of Oklahoma City; sisters, Helen Bracey, of Huntsville and Esther Fillip and husband, Alvin, of Danbury; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers: Herman Scheef, Larry Brothers, Ronnie Gilbert, J.D.Phipps, Leon Breitkreutz and Howard Whitten. Honorary Pallbearers: Members of the Marlin United Methodist Women In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, 411 Coleman, Marlin, TX 76661 or Global Adventures Calvary -Albuquerque, 4001 Osuna N.E.
