Velma D. (Taylor) Lewis, 97, of Pace, Florida, passed away Friday, December 11, 2020.
Mrs. Lewis was born August 27, 1923, to Rev. William Newton Taylor and Martha Clark Taylor of Bagdad. She was the 23rd of 24 children, with nine brothers and sisters, and 14 half-brothers and half-sisters.
Velma is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ernest Melvin Lewis, her parents, and her 23 brothers and sisters.
Velma is survived by her four daughters: Pat (Richard) Cooke, Judy (Donny) Mitchell, Susan (Randy) Hutzenbuehler, and Dr. Janet Lewis. Five grandchildren: Felicia (Ross) Speir, Richard Cooke, Jr., Michael (Tricia) Hutzenbuehler, Timothy (Ashley) Hutzenbuehler, David (Jeni) Mitchell, and ten great-grandchildren.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic precautions, the family will have a private, graveside service before internment at her husband's side at Serenity Gardens in Milton. Our family wishes to thank the staff at Sandy Ridge for their loving care of our mother and to Lewis Funeral Home for all their gentle help and guidance.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Waterfront Mission Christmas Banquet in Velma's name, at waterfrontmission.org.
