Samuel P. Orth. 45, professor of public law at Cornell University, died at Nice, France, yesterday, according to cable advices received here.
Prof. Orth who was injured in an auto accident at Ithaca about nine months ago, made the trip to France in the hope that it would be beneficial to his health. He leaves a widow, Jayne Davis Orth, who is a sister of the late State Senator Henry W. Davis.
Orth was born at Caplac, Mich. He graduated from Oberlln college and studied law at the University of Michigan. He held the political science chair at Buchtel college, Akron, for five years. Following graduation from Columbia he practiced law at Cleveland.
He was a lecturer on international law, economics and applied science at Case, Oberlin and Western Reserve colleges.
He was assistant U. S. district attorney 1905-O8, a member of the American political science association and accompanied the Cook expedition to Greenland in 1894.
As an author he wrote several books, among them being "Centralization of Administration in Ohio," a history o Cleveland, "Socialism and Democracy in Europe," and the "Boss and the Machine."
