Mr. Virgil E. Porter and Miss Eleanor McCuan United In Marriage In Memphis on Thursday

Mr. and Mrs. William Augustus McCuan, of Dresden, Tennessee, announce the marriage of their daughter, Eleanor, to Mr. Virgil E. Porter, of Jackson, Mississippi, the wedding having taken place at Hotel Peabody, Memphis, Tennessee, on Thursday, November twenty-second, at six o'clock in the afternoon with Reverend William H. Ethridge, of Bolivar, Tennessee, reading the impressive ceremony.

The English room at the Peabody furnished a beautiful setting for the occasion and was artistically decorated with graceful ferns and palms with princess vases of pink Columbia roses completing the exquisite picture.

The bride was handsomely gowned in a brown model, two piece ensemble including a crepe frock with real lace collar and cuffs, and velvet coat. The French felt hat was close fitting, and designed with gold sequins. Other accessories were to match and an exquisite corsage of roses and lilies of the valley completed the costume. The bride comes from one of Tennessee's most prominent families. She was educated at Ward-Belmont and also specialized in art in Washington, D. C. Owing to her popularity, both in Memphis and Dresden, many social courtesies have been showered upon her. She has often been a visitor in Jackson as the guest of her sister, Mrs. Paul E. Little, Cherokee Heights, and her many friends will join in giving her a gracious welcome.

Mr. Porter is one of Jackson's best known business men. He has resided in Mississippi several years, having formerly made his home in Bowling Green, Ky., and is engaged in the lumber business, being a member of the Porter-Gooch Hardwood Co. He is an active member of the Kiwanis club, a past president of the Lumberman's club and has always identified himself with the promotion of all civic affairs of the city.

After the ceremony the guests were entertained in the adjoining private dining room at an elegant dinner party given by Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Gooch of Memphis. Covers were laid for twenty guests, and the table was exquisite with all its appointments, and there was an artistically fashioned wedding cake with decorations of orange blossoms.

Mr. and Mrs. Porter will be at home in Jackson at Hotel Edwards following their honeymoon which will include Chicago and other eastern points of interest.
