Irene Genevieve Davis was the daughter of George Rollin Davis and Alice (Brown) Davis.

Irene Genevieve Davis married William Shaffer Key, Sr. on 05 MAY 1914 in Wewoka, Seminole County, Oklahoma.

They were the parents of 3 children:

1) William Shaffer Key, Jr.

2) Mary "Genevieve" Key, wife of William Harper.

3) Robert Carleton Key

THE DAILY OKLAHOMAN, newspaper date, 02 APR 1969:

Mrs. William S. Key, age 73, of 600 Culbertson Drive [Oklahoma City, Oklahoma,] died Tuesday, 01 APR 1969, in Doctor's General Hospital following a short illness. She was the widow of Major General William Shaffer Key, Sr., former commander of the 45th Infantry Division, Oklahoma National Guard. Mrs. Key was born in Wewoka, Oklahoma, and moved to Oklahoma City in 1927. She was a member of the Glass Club, Congenial Dinner Club, Third Friday Book Club and the First Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Robert Key, from Wichita, Kansas, and William S. Key, Jr., from Boulder, Colorado; one daughter, Mrs. William Harper, from St. Louis, Missouri; one brother, Jackson Davis, from Westminster, California; and two sisters, Mrs. E.C. Aldridge and Mrs. V.L. Kiker, both from Wewoka, Oklahoma.

Note: Irene, Oklahoma, named for Irene "Genevieve" Davis, later Mrs. William Shaffer Key, Sr., was located six miles south of Boley, Oklahoma. It had a post office from 31 OCT 1903 until 28 NOV 1907. On 19 DEC 1907, a post office named Schoolton, Oklahoma, was established approximately at this same site.
