She was born on Nov. 6, 1922 in Clearfield, the daughter of the late Clair H. and Laura J. (Selfridge) Shaffer.
Edith worked for various area beauticians during her career and had retired from Clearfield Area High School as a library aide.
Mrs. Fleming was a member of West Side United Methodist Church of Clearfield.
She was also a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and the National Parks Conservation Association.
Edith is survived by her two children, Robert B. Fleming and his wife Roseann of Effort and Susan J. Young and her husband Robert of Clearfield; three grandchildren, Erin Binder (Chris) of West Orange, N.J., Marc Fleming (Jackie) of Saylorsburg and Ashley Young of Cranberry Township; five great-grandchildren, Benson, Weston, Brady, Alex and Avery; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Fleming was the last member of her generation having been preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert H. Fleming, whom she married Dec. 6, 1947, and who passed away Dec. 7, 1999; three sisters, Emma Jane Shaffer, Dorothy S. Rocek and Margie Lamkie; and two brothers, Ray C. Shaffer and Earl L. Shaffer.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield with the Rev. Thomas Young officiating.
Interment will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, 1 South Front St., Clearfield, PA 16830.
