MR. ERNEST BEATON
HEAD OF A BRILLIANT FAMILY
Mr. Ernest W. H. Beaton - father of Lady Smiley, Mrs. Alec Hambro and Mr. Cecil Beaton, the Society photographer - has died in London, aged 68. He had been ill with heart trouble for some weeks. The Beaton sisters - Miss Nancy and Miss Baba Beaton - two of the most attractive girls in Society, were married in consecutive years. The elder of the two, Miss Nancy Beaton, married in January, 1933, Lieutenant Sir Hugh Houston Smiley, the third baronet, who succeeded to the title in 1930. The wedding at St. Margaret's was one of the most brilliant of the season. Miss Baba Beaton's marriage to Mr. Alec Hambro, son of Captain Angus Hambro, and a member of the family of bankers, took place at St. Mark's North Audley Street, in November, 1934. Mr. Cecil Beaton has made a reputation for himself as artist, stage designer, and Society photographer.
