On December 13, 1929, he was born in Columbia City, Indiana to Paul and Marie (Wysong) Phend. He married Marjorie Johnson on July 11, 1953, who survives. Robert retired from International Harvester/Navistar in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He is also survived by four children, Norma Schweigel, Columbia City; Michael E. (and wife Sharon) Phend, Pierceton; Rebecca A. Phend, South Whitley; Rose E. Phend, South Whitley; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
