Elsie Marie Berg, 89, of Tulsa, died on Monday, December 7, 2020.  She was born in Pawnee, Oklahoma on March 20, 1931, a daughter of Harvey and Dorothy Dallas.
Elsie married Boyd Clinton Berg on July 13, 1948 in Bentonville, Arkansas.  Boyd preceded Elsie in death in 2013.  Elsie wore many hats during her 89 years.  At the age of 13, when her mother passed, she left her schooling behind to care for her 6 siblings.  She was a farmer's wife, a mother, sister, friend, grandmother and great-grandmother. Elsie helped support her family through various jobs but her favorite was a nurse's assistant at St. Francis hospital, from where she retired.  After retiring, she and Boyd returned to the farming life until returning to Tulsa in 2011.
Elsie had many hobbies and projects during her lifetime.  She enjoyed getting her hands in the dirt either in flowerpots, flower gardens or vegetable gardens.  She was always proudly showing off her gardening accomplishments.  She enjoyed quilting, crochet, and knitting.  Each child, grandchild, and great-grandchild has an afghan or baby blanket she knitted or a quilt.  All her quilts were quilted by hand – her hands. She learned to use a computer when she decided to research her heritage.  You see, her mom came to Oklahoma by orphan train from California.  Elsie wanted to know about her mother's family.  In the end, she found her mother's sister and other relatives she didn't know existed as well as tracing her American Indian heritage.  She also spent several years researching cemeteries to help others searching for their roots.  She and a friend would walk cemeteries logging headstone information.  This information was then published in a book.
Her greatest accomplishment is that of "grandma".  She loved being with and spoiling her grandchildren, from cooking their favorite foods, making cookies with them and letting them eat those cookies whenever they wanted, attending school programs and sports events.  She was always available for her grandchildren.
Elsie is survived by two daughters, 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 2 sisters; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Elsie is also preceded in death by her son, Ronald Boyd Berg; and great grandchild, Brandon Owen Brito.
