Thomas Benton Post, oldest son of George I. Post, Sr. and Esther C. Wyckoff, was born ca. 1851, almost certainly in the Town of Fleming, Cayuga Co., New York where his father was censused in 1850 and remained until ca. January 1855 when the family removed to Auburn, Cayuga Co., New York.

Thomas Benton Post married (1st) Margaret "Maggie" Gregg, daughter of Robert and Jane Gregg of Wayne Co., New York ca. 1878. They had one child, John "Jack" Gregg Post before Maggie died in 1881. Thomas married (2nd) Mrs. Ada Day Dorrance on 19 September 1889 at Madison Co., Alabama. Ada divorced Thomas ca. 1892 in St. Louis, Missouri, reverting to her previous married name of Dorrance.

"BODY OF THOMAS B. POST SENT HERE FOR BURIAL. News was received here on Monday night of the death at the Masonic Home in Utica that afternoon of Thomas Benton Post, best known to old residents of this section as 'Bent' Post. The deceased had been an inmate of the home for the past three years, having gone there from California when his health failed. He was in the neighborhood of 70 years of age. Mr. Post, who was a native of northern Cayuga county, and a member of Wolcott lodge, F. and A. M., had led an adventurous life. He was a contractor, and had a part in building the Ontario Shore railroad through this place back in the early seventies of the past century. Later he constructed sections of the Southern Pacific railroad in California, and was a subcontractor on the Panama canal. His work carried him all over this continent and even into South America. He had both ups and downs, financially, being alternately wealthy and dead broke, as his contracts turned out successfully or otherwise. But, until advancing years and failing health impaired his resiliency, he always got back on his feet, no matter how hard the financial tumble. He married Miss Maggie Gregg, daughter of the late Robert Gregg, of this township, who died many years ago in Louisiana, leaving one son, Jack Post, who was brought up by relatives here. Jack is now in California, a contractor like his father. The local Masonic lodge arranged to receive the body and have it buried beside his wife in Glenside cemetery. The remains arrived here on Tuesday evening, and were laid at rest at 2:30 p. m., yesterday with Masonic ceremonies. The Rev. S. G. Houghton officiated at the grave."
