James Herbert "Jim" Avery died in service to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 2nd, 2023.

Jim was born in Centerville, IA to Arthur William and Edna Maye Avery on March 7th, 1933. He enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1952 and was honorably discharged on March 6th, 1956.

Jim met the earthly love of his life while attending college at Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, IL and on August 16th, 1958 he and Patricia Ann "Pat" Terpstra were married and began their life of ministry together. After graduation from Lincoln that ministry began formally at Putnam Christian Church in Putnam, IL, and then Clinton Church Of Christ in Clinton, IA. In 1968 Jim and Pat were called to serve at the Draper Park Christian Church in Oklahoma City, OK where they faithfully served together for 35 years until Jim's retirement from the pulpit in 2004. As his congregation, friends, and family all know his ministry and service to Jesus Christ continued until the day he went home.

He is survived by his
Son Mike Avery and wife Robin;
Son Brent Avery and wife Tonya;
Daughter Leigh Ann Moffatt and husband JR;
Grandchildren Justin, Jeremy, & Jeff Avery, and Zac & Shanna Moffatt;
Great grand children Devon, Leah, Jake, Jessa, and Kenzie James;
Niece Paula Avery;
