Dorothy Leila Heering, 93, of Waverly, Iowa, died Thursday, November 26, 2020, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly. She was born May 24, 1927, in Bay City, Michigan, daughter of Alvin and Clara (Selman) Green of rural Linwood, Michigan.
Dorothy attended country school to 8th grade and graduated from Pinconning High School, then attended Michigan State University and Manchester College graduating with her Bachelor of Arts Degree. She would go on to obtain her Master's Degree from Valparaiso University.
Dorothy married Martin Heering on June 5, 1948, in Bay City. They had a wonderful marriage of seventy-two years. Dorothy spent her life as a 3rd grade teacher in Knox, Indiana; Winamac, Indiana; and Waverly-Shell Rock School in Waverly, retiring in 1992. Her specialty was reading development. She was Iowa Reading Teacher of the Year in 1982.
Dorothy was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church; was Worthy Matron of Eastern Star; president of Delta Kappa Gamma; president of American Legion Auxiliary; P.E.O. International and AMVETS Auxiliary. Dorothy enjoyed traveling with Martin and playing cards. She was a lively participant and hostess in Waverly Hospital Auxiliary 500 Card Club.
Dorothy's memory is honored by:

son Donald of Los Angeles, CA
grandson, John Martin Heering.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation is open to the public on Wednesday, December 2 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, please wear a mask and social distance. Private graveside services will be at Harlington Cemetery with Pastor Tom Barnard officiating and Waverly American Legion Auxiliary Post #176 giving honors.
