John S. Funk, a prominent farmer, stockman, and extensive landowner, died at 3 o'clock yesterday morning at his home in Singers Glen. Mr. Funk had been ill for eleven weeks of a complication of diseases.

Mr. Funk was one of the most prosperous farmers in Rockingham County. He was proprietor of the Glen Stock Farm, and was also a dealer in livestock. He had been president of the West Rockingham Mutual Fire Insurance Company for ten years and chairman of the Linville District School Board for twenty-five years. He was a member of the board of trustees of Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Active in Baptist Affairs

Since its organization twenty-eight years ago, Mr. Funk had been a deacon and treasurer of the Singers Glen Baptist congregation. He was superintendent of the Baptist Sunday School at that place for forty years. He took a deep interest in religious and charitable work and was also an active member of the Virginia Springs last summer, when he spoke on temperance work.

Mr. Funk was a son of the late Jonathan Funk, and spent his entire life on the old homestead where he was born April 18, 1947. His age was sixty-nine years, eight months and fifteen days. His wife was Miss Dora Funk, a daughter of the late Rev. Solomon Funk. They celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary last June.

Wife and Five Children Survive

Surviving Mr. Funk besides his wife are five children, Mrs. C.A. Mason, of Harrisonburg; Mrs. R.S. Taylor, of Beckley, W. Va.; Mrs. W.O. Beazley, of Lexington; Miss Vada Funk and John S. Funk, Jr., at home. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Jonathan Wampler, of Singers Glen, and Mrs. Boyd H. Funk, of Bedford City.

Funeral services will be held from the Singers Glen Baptist Church tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock. Services will be conducted by Rev. G.R. Pankey, the pastor, assisted by Rev. G.B. Fadeley, of Harrisonburg, and Rev. N.F.A. Cupp, of
Singers Glen. Interment will be in the cemetery at the church.

Active pallbearers will be W.C. Funk, W.S. Armentrout, John L. Lee and D.F. Heatwole, deacons of the Baptist congregation; Rev. J.R. Bear and W.A. Keister.

Honorary pallbearers will include A.A. Howard, representing the Linville District School Board; B.F. Beery, of the West Rockingham Mutual Fire Insurance Company; C. Grattan Price, of the board of trustees of Rockingham Memorial Hospital; W.O. Moubray, of the Linville District Sunday School Association; Rev. P.S. Thomas, representing the Anti-Saloon League, and Dr. S.W. Brewer, Mr. Funk's physician.
