Chatham…….Charlie Elbert “Shorty” Gibson, Sr., age 94 of Chatham died Thursday, November 26, 2020 at SOVAH Health Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born October 23, 1926 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Lonnie Gibson and Nellie Green Mahan Gibson. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty Mae Adkins Gibson; his first wife, Mary Wagner Gibson; five brothers, Larry Gibson, Dewey Gibson, Percy Lee Gibson, Randy Gibson, and Ray Gibson; and five sisters, Nell Dillard, Barbara Jones, Pearl Hedrick, Geraldine Clay and Virgie Prather. Shorty was an Air Force Veteran and retired from Dan River Mills after 38 years of service. He enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by one son, Charlie Gibson, Jr. and wife, Lydia of Blairs; one daughter, Patricia Ann Gibson of Danville; one granddaughter, Crystal Gibson Jeffries and husband, Kenneth of Raleigh, NC; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2020 at the Gibson Family Cemetery by Rev. Curtis English. Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232.
