GALENA, KANSAS: Gladys D. Adams, 78, a former Galena resident who was living in Westland, Michigan, died Monday evening, December 27, 1999 at St Mary Hospital, Lavonia, MI. following an illness.

Mrs. Adams was born October 23, 1921 at Cora, Missouri.

She had lived in Michigan for the past three years, moving from Galena where she had lived since 1981.

She moved to Galena from Silvis, Illinois.

She retired in 1973 after working for the Litton Industries in California.

She was a member of Empire Mission Church, Galena, KS.

Gladys was married to Raymond Adams on May 13, 1951 at Reno, Nevada. He died March 3, 1984.

Surviving are two sons, Richard C. Jacobs, Westland, MI, and Roy L. Jacobs, Colts Neck, NJ; one step-son, Ray Adams, Galena, KS; one daughter, Doris L. Barnett, Minneapolis, MN; two step-daughters, Rayna Young, Galena, KS, and Gloria Sue Moore, Kansas City, MO.; two brothers, James Salisbury and Laverne Salisbury, both of Hannibal, MO.; two sisters, Maxine Tipton, Galena, KS, and Vera Fitts, Moline, IL; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm., Friday, Dec. 31, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Rev. Bob Winnett will officiate.

Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena, KS.

SOUTHWEST CITY ­ Thurman Clifton (Jake) Jacobs, 86, of Bevier and formerly of Southwest City, died Aug. 20, 2000, at Samaritan Hospital in Macon.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at the Ozark Funeral Home in Southwest City. The Rev. Ray Clanton will officiate.

Burial will be at the Southwest City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Jacobs was born March 13, 1914, in Humphrey to James Alfred and Mary Margaret (Tipton) Jacobs.

He was married to Mary Bowler on Nov. 10, 1960, in Hannibal. She survives.

Other survivors include three sons, Richard Jacobs of Westland, Mich., Roy L. Jacobs of Colts Neck, N.J., and Charles Jacobs of Jay, Okla.; two daughters, Doris Barnett of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Lois Nerini of Bevier; one sister, Vella Atkins of Hannibal; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Junior Jacobs; one grandson; three brothers, J.D. Tipton, Raleigh Jacobs and Earl Jacobs; and two sisters, Dorothy Finlaw and Vernie Roland.

Mr. Jacobs lived in Bevier for about one year, coming from Southwest City, where he had lived for eight years. He was a barge loader operator for U.S. Steel in Hannibal.

The family wishes to include as a survivor: a special nephew, Robert W. Jacobs.

Pallbearers will be Chris Bratton, Mark Bratton, Richard Bratton, Ralph Cummings, Gary Jacobs, Bill Phelps and Ron Phelps.
