Born March 11, 1916, Viola was the daughter of Laura Belle Young and Carl Levi Marston. She was a graduate of Davis High School, attended Weber State University, and worked for 16 years as a tax examiner for the IRS. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She taught Gospel Doctrine for several years and served in many other church callings. She was gifted in the arts of quilting, crocheting, and embroidery. She also enjoyed reading and spending time with family.
Viola married Stanford Phillips Layton in the Salt Lake Temple November 21, 1934. She is the mother of eight daughters and three sons. She lived in Layton for most of her life.
She is survived by 10 of her children, Laurel (Charles) Barlow, Kaysville, Stanford J. (Michelina) Layton, Salt Lake City, Christine (William) Painter, Kaysville, Rebecca (Stephen) Van Dyke, Kaysville, Angela Layton, Layton, Jennifer (Joseph) Gilmore, Kaysville, Shellie (Seldon) Young, Farmington; Sherrie Hawley, Farmington, Adrian P. (Kathy) Layton, Layton, and Lyndon C. Layton, Layton; 57 grandchildren; 100 great-grandchildren; two great great- grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; and good friends. Preceded in death by her parents; husband of 58 years, Stanford Phillips Layton; one daughter, Claudia Layton Young; two brothers, Keith Marston and Richard Marston; and two sisters, Doris Dawson and Belle Clawson.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 12:45- 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
