Dr Pattee, of Concord and Dr's Whyte, Moulding and Feld amputated the left leg at the thigh of Mrs Peter Alewise, of Pipersville, yesterday. She had been suffering for nearly two years with a white swelling of the knee joint and it became necessary to remove her limb in order to save her life.

Mrs Peter Altwies died at the home of her daughter Mrs B W Rabenhorst, 504 South Prince street, Whitewater, early today. For the past for years she had been in poor health for the past three years.
She was the former Sarah Rebecca Crosland and was born in Medina Co, Ohio, on 8 August 1851 and came to Wisconsin with her parents in 1855. She was married to Mr Altwies on 16 September 1877, at Palmyra. Since then she had lived in Jefferson county with the exception of one year. For the past 18 months she had lived with her daughter.
Besides her husband she is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs B.W. Rabenhorst, Whitewater; Mrs Emil Vogel, Sullivan; 3 sons, Edwin, Oconomowoc; Claude, town of Farmington, and Ellis, Elgin, Illinois. There is one brother, Harvey Crosland, Montebello, California. One daughter Ruth preceded her mother in death at the age of 15. There are 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 P.M. at the Nowack funeral home. Burial will be in Pipersville.
