Biography
Born in the spring of 1935 to Martin and Constance Griffin, Barbara was the second of three children and the only girl. Their family moved frequently during her childhood, but ultimately landed in Shore Acres in St. Petersburg. Barbara graduated from St. Paul’s High School in St. Petersburg in 1953. She received her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Tampa, and her Master’s from USF. In addition to raising three children, she worked as an elementary school teacher for 26 years at Safety Harbor Elementary School and Leila G. Davis Elementary School.

Barb spent her retirement years traveling with her husband Joe and with her fossiling friends “The Badland Babes” to hunt fossils twice a year. She was also a regular volunteer at the SPCA and the Clearwater Marine Aquarium where she served on the stranding team. She was also an active member of the Suncoast Conchologist Club.

Her friends and family will miss her quick wit, her mischievous green eyes, her generous spirit, her boundless energy, and her positive disposition. She is survived by her three children, 4 granddaughters and one beloved great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Farrell and her brothers, Martin Griffin and William Griffin. A celebration of Barb’s colorful life will be scheduled at a later date when it is safe to gather. In lieu of flowers, Barb has requested that memorial donations be made to Second Chance for Strays at secondchanceforstrays.com PO Box 5032 Clearwater, FL 33758.
