Obituary
Levi M. Blake was born in Oakland township, Louisa county, Iowa, June 15, 1846, and died August 29, 1913, being at the time of his death 67 years, 2 month and 14 days old. He had been confined to his bed 26 months and 2 days and during that time was a sufferer with complicated ailments of old age. He enlisted in Company K, 8th Iowa Infantry in February, 1863 and served as a soldier until the end of the way. On September 18, 1870 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Elizabeth McNatton. No children were born to this union, but they have shared their home with three homeless children, James Blake of Dakota, Elmer [sic] who is still at home, and Mrs. Lillie Meeker, who passed away last winter. Mr. Blake was converted twenty years ago. The funeral was held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. Rev. A. W. McBlain of Columbus Junction took his text from Job 14:14, "If a man dies shall he live again?" Rev. McBlain is a forcible speaked [sic] and he brought out the good points and thoughts in this text. Why should we not all believe in the hereafter, how can we believe any other way? The male quartet composed of Messrs. Walter Hall, James Sprague, Leslie Hill and Fred Moore of Columbus Junction sand, "We are going down the valley one by one," "Rock of Ages," and "Jesus Savious [sic] Pilot Me." The remains were laid to rest in the Smith cemetery.
Mr. Blake is survived by his aged wife, and Alma, and a brother, Leander Blake, of Marshalltown, Ia., and other relatives and friends.
