Biography #1: A letter dated January 27, 1891 from Joseph T. Anderson to William Anderson and family may provide some insight (to who Theophilus' father was).

"Dear Nephew:

You said that you wanted me to give you all the information that I can of your parentage; give their names and where they were raised. My father's name was Theophilus, he was raised in New Jersey; he had two brothers and one half brother; his brother's names (were) Joseph and Cornelius. His half brother's name was John, they lived in Kentucky. If he had any sisters, I never knew them. Mother's name was Mary Lear, she was raised in Old Virginia, she had three brothers; their names were George, David and James. If she had any sisters, I never saw them or heard their names. I never saw my Grandfather Lear nor neither of my grandmothers and I never knew their names. Grandfather Anderson's name was Andrew. He was raised in Ireland or Scotland: he lived in Kentucky; the last time I saw him, he was at our home in Kentucky. He was ninety odd years old. He could ride horseback like a boy. Mother's Father's name was Thomas Coy, he lived in Kentucky. Her Mother's name was Anna Ford; your mother had three sisters, named Sally, Rebecca and Ruth. If she had any brothers, I never knew them; your great grandfather's name was William Coy; your great Grandmother Coy's name I never knew.

When you write to me direct to Edinburg, Johnson County. There is no post office in Kansas. When writing direct to Joseph T. Anderson."

The nephew William is the son of James Lear Anderson.

Biography #2: The history of Joseph has been very difficult to find, but there are a few things that are known. He had little schooling but became a teacher. He lived in Brown Co., to Clinton Co., then to Fulton Co. and in later years was living with two of his nieces, Sally Coy Miller and Patsy Coy near Edinburg.

Joseph purchased property from USA 1837 N.W. corner of N.E. 1/4 section 21 Township 10 Range 4 E, which was once community of Mt. Moriah, Brown Co., Barth. Co., line. Anderson Family Cem. Hamblen Twp. Brown Co., Ind. Alternate name Mt. Moriah. Joseph Anderson does not have a tombstone in this cemetery - which is now with Camp Atterbury Military Reservation. There are some unmarked graves at this cemetery. According to a descendant of George Anderson, Joseph is buried next to Elizabeth Cotton Anderson and her sister. I have been there and there is a big rock which marks a grave but there is no name.
