Betty Marie (Newberry) Allgood Hibbard was born September 1, 1923 in Lorena, Oklahoma to Cyrus Overlesa & Bulah "Annis" (Nicks) Newberry. Her family moved to Montgomery, Texas by covered wagon when she was three years old. She attended school in Montgomery and graduated from Montgomery High School. Betty then moved to Houston and married John C. Allgood May 19, 1941. Betty worked at a textile mill in Houston and was the first female to operate the weaving machines. She later worked for Southwestern Bell and retired from J.W. Weingarten's Grocery as a manager at the lunch counter.
Betty passed away November 14, 2020 in Palestine, Texas. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband, John C. "J.C." Allgood; son, Melvin Allgood; grandson, John Sheffield; two brothers and two sisters. Surviving family members include daughter, Carolyn (Larry) Denman of Buffalo; sister, Catherine Pivonka of Magnolia; grandsons, Melvin (Deanna) Sheffield of Oakwood and Stephen (Melissa) Sheffield of Palestine; great-grandchildren, Justin, Jason, Brian, James, Kendall, Dustin, Jace, Maggie and Autumn and sixteen great, great-grandchildren. Betty is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Walters' Buffalo Funeral Home, Buffalo, Texas is in charge of final arrangements.
