Son of Nancy (nee Whitney) and Nathan Jenner (d. 1924). After his father died, his mother re-married around 1826 to recent widower John Smith, who became his stepfather.

The 1835-6 and 1836-7 Longworth American Almanacs in New York City list Elijah as a gunsmith.

1837 firstborn son Sylvester Harrington Jenner (d. 1921)
about January, 1840, his first wife bore Elijah, Jr., who died that September. Likely in 1940 his wife died also.

The 1841 Rochester City Directory lists Elijah as a gunsmith.

About 1842, he married Ann Jane Milby. She bore 4 known children, dying in 1853 before her infant:
1843– Ellen Jane Jenner (Worthington, d. 1938)
1846– Charles Kirkham Jenner (d. 1916)
1848– Candace Ann Jenner (Waugh Minor, d. 1920)
In 1850 census, E K Jenner is living in Lake, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.
1852– Infant Jenner (d. 1853)
Around 1851, he moved to California.

Around 1855, he married Mary Ellen Nutting, who was 20 years his junior. She bore him 5 girls, and outlived him:
1857– Annie B Jenner (d. 1863)
1859– Clara Belle Jenner (Scott Parker, d. 1945)
1863– Atalanta Maude Jenner (Kerrigan, d. 1957)
1865– Lotta Eva Jenner (Anderson, d. 1916)
1869– Olive Amy Jenner (Swallow, d. 1966)

In 1879, Dr. Jenner passed away. In 1881, his widow re-married to Allen Bradford, who became stepfather to his children.
