Child of Abraham and Jane (Zachariah) Backer

COLUMBUS, GA: Lists of People, 1828-1852, and Sexton's Reports to 1866 by Mary Jane Galer (published 2000), on page 192 says a child of A. Backus (sic) died age 1 of Diarrhea and buried July 22, 1851 (from July, August and September 1851, Sexton's Report of deaths, presented October 9, 1851. Despite the name, these were quarterly reports of burials in the municipal cemeteries. They include persons who died outside of Columbus but were buried in Linwood or Porterdale, and they exclude persons who died in Columbus but were buried elsewhere); the Sexton at the time was Jeremiah Terry. John H. Martin’s history of Columbus, Volume 2, p. 54 shows child of A. Backer

Abraham Backer paid a poll tax in Militia District 773 (Upper Town District) in Columbus, GA, in 1845

1850 census of Columbus, Muscogee County, GA, dwelling, household 38 ~~~ A. Backer, male 26, born in Bavaria, Merchant; Jane Backer, female 18, born in England; Sarah Backer, female 1 month, born in Georgia. That year, Abraham owned 2 slaves, a male and a female, each of them age 55. Census Day was June 1, 1850, but this household was not enumerated until October 24, 1850. It's not clear if Sarah in the household was 1 month old as of Census Day or as of Enumeration Day.

This grave probably has no inscribed marker.
