JoAnn Virginia Toso was born to Curtis and Myrtle (Hilde) Toso, June 8, 1938, in Ottertail County, MN. She passed away on November 30, 2018 at Lilac Memory Care Home in Moorhead, MN.
JoAnn grew up in Rothsay, MN, was baptized and confirmed at Hamar Lutheran Church, and attended school in Rothsay. She spent most of her working years as an appraiser in the Assessor's Office, City of Moorhead. She was very active in her church, Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church. She married William Affield in 1956 in Rothsay. They raised five children in Minnesota and spent a couple years in California. Bill passed away in 1987. JoAnn moved to Moorhead from Baker, MN. She married Duane Loewen in 1997 and they continued to reside in Moorhead. They both retired in 2000, spending time traveling the United States. Duane passed away in 2013.
JoAnn is survived by two daughters, Jennifer (Tony) Green, Ulen and Toni (Ron Schlaht) Affield, Barnesville; 3 sons, Todd (Ruth) and Randy (Wendy) Affield, Baker, and Dwight (Carrie) Affield, Barnesville; 2 step children, Michael Loewen, Northwood, ND and Michelle (Dan) Spriggs, St. Anthony, MN. Grandchildren: Jacquelyn, Kristen, Jamie, Sarah, Rachel, Brandon, William, Katie, Alyssa, Jared, Jake, Travis, and Claire; step grandchildren, Justice and Raven Spriggs; great-grandchildren, Alec, Madison, Lane, Glori, Kenzie, Brooke, Kylee, Adelyn, Bethany, Lillian, Nathanael, Emmitt, Briley, Trygvee, and Aurora; brother, Gerald (Karen) Toso, Fergus Falls; brothers-in-law, Gordon Affield, Prior Lake, Marlin Toft, Ivanhoe, and Keith Grefsrud, Santee, CA; sister-in-law, Bonnie Affield, So Carolina; aunts, Betty Nettestad, Moorhead and Grace Affield, Washington.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; infant son; sisters, CharMayne Toft and Dian Grefsrud; brother, Donald Toso; sisters-in-law, Darlene Toso, Shirley Helmer and Janice Affield; and brother-in-law, Norman Helmer.
The service to celebrate her life will be on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 2 pm at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church. Visitation will before the service at the church starting at 12:30 pm. Private burial will take place at Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Minnesota.
