Son of John Mitchell Turner and Matilda Maria Sansom. He was also known as Jack. He married Mary Elizabeth Ellison, 4 November 1857, in Spalding Co., Georgia. They were the parents of Josephine Isabell, Albert Buchanan, Charles Thomas and James Baxter Turner. He married 2nd, Mary Melissa Clark, 31 January 1882, in Terrell, Kaufman Co., Texas. They were the parents of Willie Glenn, John Mitchell III, James Keller, Pansy Belle, Frank Marklin, and Walter Lee Turner.

John served the Confederacy as a Private in Co. D, 3d Battalion Ga. Infantry, and Co. B of the 4th Battalion Georgia Sharp Shooters.

Jack Turner, one of the best known citizens of this place, having resided here for many years, died this morning at his home in South Terrell at 4 o'clock, aged 70 years. The funeral will be held at Rose Hill tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock.
