This is a memorial to Joe as I have not found his exact burial location. Joe was the oldest son of Thomas Jefferson Addington and Anna E Moore from Morganton, Fannin Co., GA and they made their home in Ducktown.
Joe was married to Hessie Simmons from NC and they had one son, Thomas Edward Addington b. 1908. He was a drill runner for the copper mines and in January 1918 he went to work in Africa at the copper mines under the Belgium government. On March 27, 1918 he died there of unknown causes at the age of 39. It is not known if his remains were returned to Polk County as I have yet to find any paperwork for that, only that his personal effects and a check for 2,250 francs were sent to his widow and she only received the personal effects and not the check. But it took Hessie several letters & docs to finally get the check. No mention of where Joe's body was ever in these documents/letters.
This is a memorial for Joe. (Info provided by Cindy Womble Billman)
