"Phil S. Steele, of Cookson, OK, formerly of Boulder, died of pneumonia on Saturday, February 9, 2008 in Salina, KS. He was 66. Phil, the son of James Otis Steele and Mary Kathleen Wilson Steele, was born on Oct 21, 1941 in New Hampton, MO. As a boy he moved with his family to Berthoud, CO. He graduated from Berthoud High School in 1959 and attended Northeastern Junior College, on an athletic scholarship, for a period of time before enlisting in the Army. He married Carol Joyce Schleiger on April 4, 1960 in Berthoud. In 1963 he and his young family moved to Boulder, also marking the beginning of his career at Public Service Company. Though Phil and Carol divorced years later, they remained good friends. Phil was married to Suzanne Cunningham from 1979 until 1982. In the early 1980's he built himself a beautiful log home in the mountains of Gilpin County. After retiring from Public Service he moved to Northeastern Oklahoma where he lived on the shores of Lake Tenkiller. Here he enjoyed the great outdoors -- fishing, boating, and viewing the wildlife. He is remembered as a good friend and a loving father, brother and grandfather by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister Janice, and his brother Jeffery James. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Feb.23, 2008, at Crist Mortuary Chapel, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder."
