In 1924, he moved to Chicago where he joined the Hartzell Methodist Church, serving for many years. His education included graduate work at Northwestern University, the University of Colorado and the University of Chicago.
His military career included serving in World War I and World War II. He was member of the Signal Army Training Corp Unit and during World War I, taught electronics. During World War II he taught American Red Cross First Aid Strategies. After the War, Franzie worked as a postal clerk, retiring from the US Post Office in 1962.
The Chicago Board of Education, where Franzie retired in 1970, was the last of a series of successful teaching experiences. Which included Paul Quinn College and White Rock School in Houston County, Texas.
Franzie was married to the late Maude Wilbun in 1923, and to Velma Johnson, his present wife in 1927.
