Mrs. Mamie Catherine Snell, 79, of Route 2, Afton, died at 11:15 a.m. Friday in Waynesboro Community Hospital.
Mrs. Snell was a member of Hebron Baptist Church. She had been employed at the Du Pont Co. plant for eight years before she resigned in 1953.
She was the widow of Christian Snell, who died Dec. 12, 1971, and was preceded in death by one step-son, Ernest Snell and one step-daughter, Mrs. Helen Glass.
Born in Afton May 8, 1892, she was a daughter of the late Ulysses Grant and Annie Bell Baber.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ada Fox of Route 2, Afton; three step-daughters, Mrs. W. P. (Marie) Wine of Rt. 1, Mrs. George (Catherine) Balsley of Waynesboro and Mrs. William (Frances) Albright of Greensboro, N. C.; one step-son, Carroll A. Snell of Hudson, Fla.; also one niece, one nephew and four great-nieces; 16 step-grandchildren and 19 step-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hebron Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. John Chaffee, with burial in the church cemetery.
The body will remain at the Etter Funeral Home until one hour prior to the service.
Active pallbearers will be Henry Cook, Ray Glass, Bill Wine, Franklin Balsley, Charles Balsley and Calvin Snell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Berchie Bragg, Frank Kerby, Pete Farrar, Wilson Bryant, Garry Bryant, Bobby Bryant, E. S. Fox Jr., E. T. Higginbotham, Harry Floyd, Jesse Coffey, Jasper Smith and William Rittenhouse.
Friends will be received at the home of her sister.
