Services for Mary Ann Guokas, 75 of Tyler, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home with Deacon Fred Arrambidez officiating. Mrs. Guokas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 18, 2015 in Tyler. She was born August 9, 1939 in Maben, Miss to the late Presley Haze Harpole and Edna Brooks Harpole. She and her husband, Charlie made Tyler their home in 1983. She became very active in the Tyler and East Texas Community. From 1986-92 she was on the Tyler Crimestoppers Board. She became a member of the Women's Republican Party and worked with several County and State level campaigns. She even ran for County Commissioner. She worked in many capacities with several different companies including, Tyler Morning Telegraph and the Azleway Boys Ranch, but closest to her heart was being a personal caregiver in peoples home for many years. She was also a member of the Cathedral on the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Guokas, III. Survivors include her loving family, daughters, Ana Maria Sarmiento of Houston and Sophia Sarmiento of Tyler; son, William Aaron Russell of Tyler; a brother, Paul Harold Harpole of Illinois; two grandchildren, Estelle Sarmiento and Avery Hartman; three great-grandchildren, Evy Medina, Jaslinne Calderon and Leyanna Calderon and nieces and nephews, John, Paula, Anthony and Kristy. The family will receive friends at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to St. Jude for Kids. www.stjude.org/‎
