Masonic Funeral Honors will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2007, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro. Interment, will follow in Eastview Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service at a reception in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church, 118 E. Morgan Street, Wadesboro.
Arnold was born in Anson County, N.C., July 4, 1935, a son of the late Arnold Edward Beachum and Julia Gertrude Niven Beachum, and was the grandson of the late Carlton Malcolm Niven and Isabella Florence Niven, and Alberta Egbert Beachum and Radie Cleo Edwards Beachum. He was a graduate of Clemson University and was a registered architect in North Carolina, South Carolina and Missouri.
He was a master mason, currently serving as Master of the Joppa Masonic Lodge # 530 in Charlotte, a member of the Scottish Rite – Valley of Charlotte and the Ararat Shrine Temple in Kansas City, Mo.
He was also a member of the Construction Specifications Institute, Catawba Valley Scottish Society, Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, and a veteran of the United States Navy having served aboard the USS Hancock. Arnold was also serving as President of The Niven Family Foundation.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Stroud Beachum of the home; his daughter, Tamara DeAnne Beachum Gehle and husband Kenneth of Decatur, Ga; his grandchildren, Eilis Anne Gehle and Eric Duncan Gehle, both of Decatur, Ga; sister-in-law Mary Beachum of Augusta, Ga; nephew and niece Robert Arnold Beachum of Augusta, Ga., and Julia Niven Beachum of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers-in-law Ernest Stroud and wife Monica, and Bobby Stroud and wife Theo, all of Kershaw, S.C., and sister-in-law Virginia Faile and husband J.T. of Lancaster, S.C.
