Harry joined the Navy at an "early age" and was in Pearl Harbor aboard the USS Honolulu CL48 the morning of Dec.7,1941. His ship suffered relatively light damage, but was unable to sail and stayed in port for repairs. By the end of WWII he had nearly 8 years invested in the Navy and decided to make a career of it. He served in both WW II and the Korean war, and was decorated many times. He retired in 1959 as Chief Petty Officer and bought a small farm on the Morgan/Perry county line at the end of Stub Rd. He took employment with the Nelson McCoy Pottery Company in Roseville, Ohio in 1959 to supplement what little income the farm provided and was over their shipping operations in South Zanesville when he died. He and his wife Betty are the parents of two children, Richard and Tammy Jean. Harry was held in high regard and is remembered and missed by all who knew him.
Harry was born to Robert G. and Clara West Crum near Leesburg, Ohio on April 8, 1922. He is survived by one brother, Charles Sanford Crum of Homewood, Ilinois. He was preceded in death by a sister Mrs. Joy R. Current of Ruskin, Florida.
