Jerry graduated from Michigan Center High School in 1954. He served his country for several years in the Naval Reserve ROTC. Jerry retired from Lansing Board of Water and Light after working 26 years as an electrical engineer. Along with being a loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was a fisherman, hunter, golfer, and enjoyed tying fishing flies. His true passion, other than his family, was bowling. Jerry spent many hours at bowling allies in the Jackson and Lansing areas and was inducted into the Jackson Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1999. Jerry always had a smile and was so easygoing that he never, ever had a complaint.
Jerry is lovingly remembered by his wife of 39 years, Betty (Beebe) Phillips; children, Rae (David) Fruth and Gerald L. (Amy) Phillips Jr.; grandchildren: Sara (Jamie Watson) Fruth, Ryan Fruth, and Ethan (Chelsea) Phillips; great-grandchildren: Marayah, Brendon, Jayden, JaMarion, Micah, Jillianna, and Cruz; sister, Beverly (Les) Gauze; several nieces and nephews; and honorary family members: Abigail, Willetta Brewster, Nevaeh, and Azurrie.
