Gloria Swanson Sitton
July 23, 1930 - November 24, 2013

Gloria Pace Sitton passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center. A private family burial service will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, followed by a memorial service at 1:30 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Phil Sitton will officiate.

Gloria was born in Laurel, Mississippi on July 23, 1930 to Henry and Goldie Pace. In 1939 she moved to Stamford, Texas to be raised by her Aunt and Uncle, Carrie and Tip Pace. She married her childhood sweetheart, Ted Sitton, on July 15, 1951. They recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. Gloria received her BS in Education and her MS in Education from Abilene Christian University. She taught third grade for 29 years. Gloria was a member of University Church of Christ.

Affectionately known as Mamaw, she delighted in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a huge and generous heart and a beautiful smile. She was a dedicated coach's wife and teacher. She loved going to Lake Brownwood to watch her family enjoy boating, skiing and swimming. She prayed many prayers for her treasured family and was particularly keen on knowing every detail of each and every one of her family members.

Survivors include her husband, Ted Sitton; her son, Gary Sitton and wife Gwen; her daughter, Cara Sue Sitton, all of Abilene, and her daughter, Jani Freeman and husband Steve of Breckenridge. Her grandchildren are Kellie Sherwood and husband Austin of Ft. Worth, Abbey Sitton and Lindsey Sitton, both of College Station, Colby Freeman and wife Courtney of Lantana, Kelsi Freeman of Brownwood, and Kirby Freeman and wife Andrea of Edmund, Oklahoma. Her great-granddaughters are Averie, Gracie, Kennadie and Jersie Freeman. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Gloria was preceded in death by a son, Chuck Sitton and by her brother, Roy Pace.
