Ralph Ernest Ball Served in the merchant marines, during WWI, as first-class engineer on board the S.S.America, a US troop transport, when it was torpedoed off coast of Ireland. He and 11 others were rescued after 57 hours adrift at sea. Member of Universalist Church of Woodsville where he sang tenor in the choir and in the DeRue Bros. Minstrels. Surviving: widow, Alice Allen Ball and daughter, Barbara Ann of Alstead; his mother, Mrs. Loretta Ball of Swanzey; four sisters, Mrs. Arthur Brown of Johnstown, N.Y., Mrs. Charles McCarthy of Plymouth, Mrs. George Fosdick, Jr., of Winchester; and Mrs. Howard Stone of Swansey; and one brother, Mr. R. Theodore Ball of Concord . . . Funeral at the Federated church in Alstead Village, with Rev. George B. Marsh, officiating . . .Pall-bearers were George S. Callum and Harold L.
