Robert Aldrich Felsman, 86, passed from this life on June 11, 2020 at his home. He was born in Tyler, Texas to Aldrich Martin and Clara Louise Felsman on June 3, 1934. The family later moved to an area near Tyler and Robert attended 12 years of school at New London, Texas. During his school years he participated in numerous school activities including band (trumpet), basketball and tennis, school newspaper (sports), speech (State declamation award) and drama. His childhood and youth coincided with the heyday of the East Texas Field, at that time the largest oil field in the world and a significant supplier of energy that enabled the allied victory in World War II. His father, and just about everyone else in the area, was employed in the oil industry. In 1957 he received a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas and became employed by Hughes Tool Company (later Baker-Hughes), a major manufacturer of drilling equipment, as a design engineer. He attended the University of Houston Law School at night and in 1962 received his law degree and was admitted to the Texas Bar. In 1963 he was admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent Office. From 1964 until his retirement in 1997, he practiced intellectual property law in Fort Worth, Texas and counted many major corporations as clients. Shortly after he entered private practice Hughes Tool retained him as their patent lawyer, a relationship that continued until his retirement.
Following retirement, he and his wife divided their time between homes in Texas and Gunnison, Colorado. A lifelong golfer, after retirement Robert also became an avid fly fisherman. He will be remembered for his organizational skills, wise counsel and pursuit of excellence in both his profession and leisure activities.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Stanton Felsman. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou Felsman, son Bradley Keen Felsman, daughter Marianna Louise Felsman and husband Randall Darnell, grandchildren Deniz and Derin Felsman, brother James Felsman, sister Janet Puryear and husband Jack Puryear, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at a later date. The family requests that remembrance gifts be made to Meals On Wheels, the Salvation Army, or a charity of choice.
