Winner All-Comers Tournament 1887; U.S. champion men's singles 1888 and 1889 and men's doubles 1889. Author of "Lawn Tennis in Our Own Country."President U.S. Lawn Tennis Association 1892-93.

BA 1883 Yale; L.LB George Washington University 1885. Lawyer in New York City 1885 until retirement 1925. Member New York Stock Exchange.

Served as private tutor while at Yale. Member of football, basketball and baseball teams. Consolidated Baseball Nine; president University Tennis Club and Lawn Tennis Club; winner tournament fall 1882 and spring 1883. Delta Kappa, Delta Kappa Epsilon, Wolf's Head.

Married Oct. 22, 1888, in New York City, Grace, daughter of Henry and Emma (Jerome) Edsall. Daughters Gertrude (Mrs. W. Herbert Adams; died 1917) and Natalie (Mrs. George Albert Smith).

Mrs. Slocum died a few hours before her husband. Death due to a stroke. Survived by one daughter and a granddaughter.
