JOHN FRANKLIN SMITHSON ... was born Nov. 6, 1870 and died July 13, 1950. He was born in Tennessee, the youngest of eight children born to David and Katherine Smithson, all of whom preceeded him in death. He came to Taney Co., Missouri in 1876 and has been a resident of this county ever since. He was married to Belva Laughlin in 1891 and to this union were born five children. His wife died July 6, 1903 and four children proceeded him in death, one surviving him in death, Harold Smithson of Dickens, Missouri. Later he married Anna Johnson on May 14, 1914. They lived on the farm now known as the Sulgrove farm until 1938 and later moved to another farm on Swan Creek. In December 1945, they moved to Taneyville and this was his home until the last 6 months, which he spent at the home of his son [Harold] and the last week at the State Sanatorium in Nevada. He was saved and baptised in October 1947, at the Baptist church in Taneyville. He is survived by his wife, Anna, one son Harold Smithson, and seven grandchildren, three stepchildren, Mrs. Ed Johnson, Forsythe; Mr. Cloney Johnson, Oregon and Mr. Lee Boswell, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and several other relatives and a host of friends.
