Howard E. Blystone, 85 of Wattsburg, died Friday August 2, 2013 at Sarah Reed Retirement Center following an extended illness.
He was born on September 12, 1927 in Phillipsville PA, a son of the late Emmett and Sabra Titus Blystone.
Howard graduated from Wattsburg High School in 1946 and was inducted into the U.S. Army and served stateside in Louisiana, Wash. D.C., and Chicago. Upon his discharge from the military he returned to the Wattsburg area and attended Erie Commercial College, where he studied accounting for 2 years. He worked for Lovell Mfg. and Singer Sewing Machine in Erie.
He moved to Canadohta Lake and was a store manager for Singer in Titusville, Meadville and Indiana, PA. Then he moved to Phoenix, Arizona and was self-employed as a salesman, repairman and owner of three stores, "The VAC SHACK". He returned to Phillipsville in 1990 and has resided there since, spending winters in AZ until permanently moving to Phillipsville in 2002.
Howard was active in many organizations including the Siebenbuerger Club, American Legion Post #237 Union City, NRA, and Phillipsville United Methodist Church he was a church council member and former Auditor and Treasurer. He was an avid bowler and loved hunting, shooting, golfing, and traveled worldwide.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Stanley Blystone and a sister Doris Fuller.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Shirlee A. Rose Blystone whom he married on October 4, 1947; his three daughters Joan A. Staples and her husband Barry of Corry, Lucy E. Webster and her husband Scott of Union City, and Gail M. Kolaja and her husband Lynn of Spartansburg; his son Norman H. Blystone and his wife Karen of Wattsburg; sisters, Anna Myers of Erie, and Ilene Bisbee and husband Lyle of Union City; brother, Thomas Blystone and wife Julie of Rotunda West, FL; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no public calling hours observed per his wishes to donate his body to medical research.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on August 10 at 11:00 AM at the Phillipsville United Methodist Church, 11469 Phillipsville Rd, Wattsburg with Rev. Russell Hixson officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Phillipsville United Methodist Church or to Regional Home Health Hospice 3526 Peach St., Erie, PA. 16508
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Edder Funeral Home, Inc., Girard.
