BURLINGTON - Dr. Stanton Vance Huffman, 87, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, peacefully at his home.
He was born in Alamance County to the late Joel Patterson Huffman and the late Pearl Johnson Huffman and was the husband of 34 years to Helen Cogan Huffman, who survives. Vance retired after 35 years with Huffman Clinic, where he was the owner and physician. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1949 and earned his medical degree from Harvard in 1952. He was a member of the Bethlehem Christian Church, AO Civitans, The American Medical Association and was an U.S. Army and Navy veteran. Survivors, in addition to his wife Helen of the home, include his daughters and sons-in-law, Susan H. Wells of Fort Mill, S.C., Cindy and Donnie Compton of Burlington, Robin and Rob Saunders of Knoxville, Tenn.; stepdaughters and spouses, Mindy and Dave Clary of Ashland, Va., Marla and Doug Watson of Charlotte; six grandchildren, two stepgrandsons; and five great-grandchildren; stepson-in-law, Danny Baker of Charlotte; the mother of his children, Dorothy C. "Dot" Huffman of Fort Mill, S.C. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter, Margo Baker; brothers, Patterson Huffman and Joel Huffman; sister, Luena Ball; one half brother and three half sisters. The memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dave Gilbert. The family will receive friends following the service with a reception at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home.
