In 1939 Gertrude Kunkle, in her book Cemetery Inscriptions Of Ellsworth County Kansas, said about this stone:
"JORDEN Small Marker (broken)
Our darling
Edna Jorden
born Apr. 30, 1886
died Oct 20, 1886.
Age 5 Mo 2 d.
Sleep on sweet bab*
and tak* thy rest
(illegible)
home--------best
*(Note - Copied exactly; this inscription was
scratched on a block of marble with a knife
or other sharp pointed instrument)."
The inscription at the bottom is now completely illegible.
