ANITA DOROTHY (HILL) HICOCK Suddenly after a short illness, Anita Hicock, widow of Rube Hicock and mother of their five children, Raymond, Wayne, Earl, Kathy and Lorrie, passed away on February 27, 2016 peacefully at her home. Anita was born at Whitemouth, Manitoba on August 14, 1934, the youngest child and only daughter of Alex and Alvina (Malkoske) Hill. After graduating high school just prior to her seventeenth birthday, she went to work at Ashdown's Wholesale in Winnipeg. In spring she returned to Whitemouth and married Rube Hicock on May 20, 1952. They were happily married for nearly 59 years until Rube passed away in February, 2011. Rube worked with Manitoba Hydro until his retirement in 1981. In October 1956 the family, then including Ray and Wayne moved to Steinbach, where Earl was born. In December 1957, they moved to Transcona, where Kathy and Lorrie were born in the sixties. They lived on Virden Cres. For 44 years. In 2002, Anita and Rube moved to Park City Meadows, where Anita served as one of the founding Board of Directors for many years. When Lorrie was in kindergarten, Anita started to work outside the home, something that was somewhat frowned on for mothers of young children at that time. During the next 26 years, she worked at Gambles, Princess Auto, Canadian Grain Commission and Agriculture Development until her retirement in 1990. Anita and Rube were always involved with their children, their activities and their friends and this interest continued with their grandchildren. They enjoyed sports and young people, and were involved in their baseball, hockey, etc. They both curled for many years and were season ticket holders for the Bombers starting in 1953, attending 15 Grey Cups. They also had Jets tickets, starting back in the WHA days. Anita always maintained her love and support of sports. With the return of the Winnipeg Jets, she attended several games a year with family and friends. All the family was very important to Anita, including the ones who married into the group and their children. She is survived by her five children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: sons Raymond, Wayne (Kim), and Earl (Susan), daughters Kathy (Mike Schmidt) and Lorrie (Doug Neill); grandchildren Justin (Jenn and their children Sam and Nyla) Hicock; Danielle (Gavin and their daughter Adrianna) Fifi; Kurtis (Lucia) and Tyler Schmidt; Cory (Ashley) and Alyssa Neill; Bryson, Caleb and Celeste Hickok, Precious (Shane and daughter Mayla) and Joel Murrell, sisters-in-law Ann Hill (her closest and dearest friend) and Alice Hill, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents and brothers Ed and Harvey, as well as all of Rube's family. So when your thoughts do turn to me know that I would not have you cry, but live for me and laugh for me, cause when you are happy so am I. Anita was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a wonderful, loving, caring, kind and strong woman, who cared deeply for every single member of our family and all those around her. She had a passion for life, her family and her community, and that carries on through all of us. We will miss her dearly every day. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. with Rev. Jeff Cook officiating. Those wishing to honor Anita's memory may contribute to the Rainbow Society, 303-1 Wesley Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4C6 or just do some kindness to someone who needs it. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550
