She was the daughter of Lewis I. Matson and Orcelia Clark Matson.
On December 24, 1896 as Mabel O. Matson, she married Henry G. Brown at Steuben County, Indiana.
They were the parents of four children including Virginia Brown Dukeshire (1898-1939).

Hold Final Rites For Mabel Matson Brown
Services for Mrs. Mabel Matson Brown, 81, will be held in the First Baptist Church at Pleasant Lake on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. Mrs. Brown, who was the daughter of the late Lewis I. and Orcelia Clark Matson, passed away in the Presbyterian hospital in Chicago after a three weeks illness.
Mrs. Brown, who was born and spent her childhood days in Pleasant Lake, was a sister of the late John O. Matson. She was a talented woman with much musical ability and a pleasing personality. She was married to Henry Grant Brown, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Brown, also a native of this county and whose home was at the Sanders corner northwest of Angola. Mr. Brown was a teacher and educator of solid reputation and was principal of the Pleasant Lake school and superintendent of the schools at Butler and Lebanon, Indiana. Mr. Brown passed away in 1926.
Of four children, Virginia Brown and Dr. Clark Brown preceded their mother in death. The other two, Wendell and Orcelia, live in Chicago. Surviving also are four grandsons and four granddaughters and a great granddaughter.
The services Saturday afternoon will be conducted by Rev. Russell M. Brayton, and burial will be in the old Clark cemetery northwest of Pleasant Lake.
