Mr. George was a young cowboy when he arrived in Clark County, Kansas in 1877. He established a ranch along the Beaver River in "No Man's Land" grazing his cattle from the river north to the Liberal, Kansas area. In 1899, Mr.George moved to Liberal entering into the dry goods and grocery business. He built one of the first brick buildings at 2nd Street and Kansas Ave establishing the J. E. George Grocery Company.
Mr. George was elected President of the Liberal State Bank in 1900 which later became the 1st National Bank. He held that position for 31 years. He also helped organized the Moscow State Bank, 1st National Bank of Dalhart, First State Bank of Beaver, Oklahoma and the State Bank of Tyrone, Oklahoma.
Mr. George was a York and Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Mystic Shrine.
