Robert Valorius Kerns, eldest son of James Harper and Clarissa Kerns, married Margaret Rebecca McConnell on November 14, 1850. Rebecca was the daughter of Abner Wilson McConnell and Margaret Templeton McConnell of Iredell county. She was born April 30, 1827. To this union were born eight children: John F., Martha C., James Abner, Margaret, Sarah Jane, William Mathew Davidson, Letitia and Ida.
